High Point Furniture Market 2019

One of my most favorite things about the mattress and furniture industry are market shows! They happen every season and the two I attend most often are located in High Point, NC and Las Vegas, NV. Here is a peek of some of our favorite finds at the Fall 2019 High Point Market broken down by locations:

Mattress War: Twin vs. Twin XL

Picture
Deciding on a few extra inches of foot room?
Here are the pros and cons of purchasing a Twin Mattress vs. Twin XL Mattress

Twin Mattress Dimensions - 39" X 75"
Twin size mattresses are 39 inches in width and 75 inches in length. Sometimes they are referred to as "single" mattresses. They can accommodate one sleeper, although the length is sometimes too short for taller adults. Twin mattresses are used for bunk beds, children's rooms and smaller rooms.

PROS:
  • It is easier to find sheets and frames
  • It may take less space at room
  • It is more affordable
  • Easy to move

CONS:
  • It is shorter in length
  • Taller adults may not benefit from the size

REASONS TO CHOOSE A TWIN: Twin mattresses are the next transition from a crib mattress for small children. They can accommodate smaller teens and adults comfortably too. You should choose a twin mattress if you are looking to make extra space in your room, need a quick solution for adding extra sleeping accomodations or have a child that has just grown out of a crib size mattress.
Twin mattresses are one of the most affordable mattress options. At Columbus Mattress Wholesale our twins start out at $125 for mattress and box spring. Twin size mattresses can fit comfortably in small rooms that are 84" x 120". The mattress itself is too narrow to support two people of average height, if you are looking to accomodate a tall teen or adult the Twin XL would be more ideal.

Twin mattresses are easy to move and transfer from room to room. The weight of the mattress depends on the type of mattress and how thick it is.

Twin XL Mattress Dimensions - 39" X 80"
Twin XL mattresses are 39 inches in width and 80 inches in length. With an added five inches of length to your sleeping space, Twin XL mattresses can be a better choice for taller people wanting a twin-size option. You can find Twin XL's in college dorms and guest bedrooms.

PROS:
  • More space for tall teens and adults
  • Two Twin XL's can be converted into a King Size
  • Additional foot room

CONS:
  • Harder to find sheets and frames
  • Not suitable for smaller sized rooms

WHY CHOOSE A TWIN XL MATTRESS: The length of a Twin XL Mattress is the same as a Queen and King size Mattress 80". If you are an adult or taller teenager, this mattress size allows for more foot room. Twin XL is also the best option for adults that are looking for their own space. Two Twin XL Mattresses equal a King Size Mattress. The cost of Twin XL mattresses are slightly higher than your average twin size mattress because of its added length and ability to make a King Size with two. If you are 6 feet tall you should opt for a Twin XL mattress over a regular Twin size mattress.

At Columbus Mattress Wholesale we have Twin XL Mattresses starting at $395. Twin XL mattresses will fit comfortably in rooms with the minimum dimensions 84" x 120". Twin XL Mattresses offer more comfort for heightened people but are harder to find sheets and frames for.

If I had to choose between the two I would recommend the Twin Mattress. Simply, because you'll spend less time searching for sheets and blankets. Plus Twin Mattresses are just the beginning step to a Queen or King size mattress that will last 10-15 years.

Choosing the Right Mattress Size

Choosing the Right Mattress Size

First things first, lay down on the mattress and try it out! You will be surprised by how many people don't lay down on their mattress before purchasing it. There are many layers in a mattress and just pushing down on the top of the mattress with your hand will not give you an accurate measure of comfort or support.

It is important to find the right size mattress so that you get the BEST sleep possible. There are six basic mattress sizes in the furniture industry. Mattress sizes are universal, but may vary by a hair (not enough for you to notice with the naked eye) depending on the manufacturer. Below is a sample chart that I made of the six kinds of mattress sizes.

Now, let's learn about each of the mattress sizes and the type of individual they are ideal for.

Full Mattress Dimensions - 54" X 75"
Full mattresses are 54 inches in width and 75 inches in length. Full mattresses are also referred to as double mattresses. They provide more width for your sleeping area than twin mattresses. Full size mattresses are ideal for one person, but could fit two people.

Picture
Queen Mattress Dimensions - 60" X 80"
Queen size mattresses are 60 inches in width and 80 inches in length. Queen mattresses are the most popular mattress size in the United States. They are great for adults, teenagers, couples and children.

King Mattress Dimensions - 76" X 80"
King size mattresses are 76 inches in width and 80 inches in length. They are usually the best mattress choice for couples, giving each person a sleeping area equivalent to a twin xl mattress. King mattresses are also good for families and individuals who share the bed with their pet.

California King Mattress Dimensions - 72" X 84"
California king size mattresses are 72 inches in width and 84 inches in length. There size is good for tall adults or sleepers looking for extra sleeping length. Cal Kings are the most common mattress size used with adjustable beds.
